Objective II

Artifact 1

My ADHA membership allows me to meet fellow healthcare professionals and learn from them as well as participate in our community. Dental Hygiene has been threatened by law various times through a bill almost passing that would put our jobs out of the industry. The only people who fight against it are dental hygienists. It is important that through our union, we educate the public on public health and safety standards. Untrained people may cause damage and do not have the same training as an RDH.

Artifact 2

My BLS life support training has prepared me for a medical emergency and increasing the survival rate for my patients. Time is of the essence during a stroke or cardiac arrest and I will be seeing patients who may need help in the dental chair. Even with reviewing medical history and medical consults, medical emergencies can still happen in a dental office especially after local anesthetic has been given.

Artifact 3

My HIPAA training and Bloodborne Pathogen certificate has prepared me to not make the same mistakes as others with hurting people. I have previously worked at a dental office that accidently used dirty cassettes on patients and then had to call those patients to let them know to get Hepatitis testing. I understand how someone with no HIPAA knowledge could say that it is not a big deal if a computer is accidently left logged on. However, trained professionals know the risk that comes with health information and private information such as addresses and social security numbers, etc.
