This would enable dental assistants to finish calculus removal and periodontal probing while working under a dentist's supervision. This approach will have a devastating impact on the hygiene job market. When competing with assistants, hygienists won't have much of an option but to take lower compensation or think about relocating to another state where their profession is still protected. If this law is approved, many hygienists in Colorado should anticipate leaving the state.
